What is "Flats Boat Fishing"?
The term "Flats" refers to the shallow waters such as the low tide mud flats or the high tide grass flats... places where fish feed, spawn, and hide from predators. Like us.
A common misconception is that a "Flats Boat" is a "flat-bottomed boat"... but it's usually not. Our Scout Costa 190 is a great riding v-hull, capable of getting us into less than a foot or so of water, but also well designed to handle open water like that of Port Royal Sound. We can catch fish in 7 inches of water or 70 feet of water with this sleek craft.
Equipped with a poling platform that allows your experienced Hilton Head fishing guide to quietly push-pole the boat into skinny water, we can stalk tailing redfish, sheepshead, or bonnethead sharks. Then, we can cruise out of the smaller creeks to open water and chase Jack Crevalle, or drop live bait for Tarpon, Cobia, or monster sharks.
